The history of the Catholic community of Takdah can be traced back to visits of fathers, brothers and nuns from Darjeeling.

Sr Marina Goretti, Sr Dorothy and Sr Ruby of Missionaries Charity reached Takdah on 13th September, 1973 to look after orphans there. Fr Peter Ranger arrived at Takdah as Chaplin for the Sisters on 1st February 1976.Eventually he became the first Pastor of the area.

The missionaries of Charity established a convent  at Takdah in 1982.

Fr Prakash Rai is the present Parish Priest of the Church. The sub stations of the Church include Peshok,Takling,Tarjam, Teesta valley and Gielle Tea Estate.
