Namchi Public School was established by the department of education, Govt. of Sikkim on 28th July1989. After three years, the school was handed over to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling by Mr. N B Bhandari, the then Chief minister of Sikkim, along with 25 acres of land. Fr William Miranda was appointed the first Catholic Principal of the institution. The Bishop is the President of its governing body.

Namchi Public School conducts classes from 1 to 12. It is a co-educational institution. The school is affiliated to ISCE, New Delhi. Hindi, Nepali and Tibetan are taught as second languages. It is compulsory for the pupils to take one of these languages. Fr George A D’souza is the present Principal of the School.
